According to the Federal Reserve, total household wealth in the United States is $160,35 trillion—that's the value of all of Americans' assets minus their debt.
To call this uneven distribution is an understatement. The bottom 50% of the population owns less than 3% of all wealth, while the richest 10% control almost everything else.
Here's how much each American would receive if all the nation's wealth were divided equally.

Half a million per person
According to Google's Data Commons project, there are approximately 340,11 million people living in the United States.
If you split $160,35 trillion equally among everyone, each person would get about $471, or $465 for a married couple. If the couple had two children, a family of four would get $942 million.
For most of the bottom 50% of the population, this sounds like a great deal, while for the top 10%, a net worth of less than $500 may seem like a pittance.
Hierarchy of rich and poor
Almost every third dollar is in the hands of the top 1%, who own $49,46 trillion, or 30,8% of U.S. wealth. But even within that XNUMX%, there is a hierarchy.
The top 1% is led by the top 0,1%, about 340 people, who account for $000 trillion, or 22,14% of total wealth. The rest of the 13,8% is the group of wealthy people from the 1th to 99%, who share $99,9 trillion, or 27,32%.
Next come the top 90% to 99%, with $58,34 trillion, or 36,4%. Collectively, the top 10% own almost exactly two-thirds of U.S. wealth.
90% of the population owns the remaining 33%, but this division is far from equal.
Almost all of the remaining third—$48,54 trillion, or 30,3 percent—is owned by the 50 percent to 90 percent group.

The bottom 50% of the income bracket receives just 2,5%, or $4,01 trillion. If that money were divided equally among 170 million people, each would receive $23.
By comparison, the top 340% of wealthiest 000 people have an average of $0,1 million each—65,12 times more than the bottom 2760%.
