Threatens 80 for Ukraine: Manafort found guilty on charges
The jury of Alexandria in Virginia found the former head of the campaign headquarters of US President Donald Trump Paul Manafort guilty of eight counts from 18, writes NBC News.
In addition, the judge declared the charges on ten points invalid, on which the jury did not reach a consensus.
He was found guilty of five tax fraud points and two bank fraud points.
While the judge was reading the sentence, Manafort did not show any reaction and did not look at the jury.
According to Voice of America journalist Ruslan Petrichka, Manafort faces 80 years in prison.
“The court found Manafort guilty of 8 counts. Most relate to his time working in Ukraine: tax evasion, concealment of foreign bank accounts, bank fraud. The maximum possible punishment is 80 years,” the journalist quotes Columnist.
Defense lawyer Kevin Downing said the spin doctor was "disappointed" in the jury's verdict.
“Mr. Manafort is disappointed that he was not acquitted. However, he would like to thank Judge Ellis for giving him a fair trial and to thank the jury for their very long and hard work,” he said.
Before 29 August, prosecutors must decide on the remaining 10 charges.
Information on the recognition of Manaforta appeared at the same time as the ex-lawyer Trump Michael Cohen pleaded guilty in numerous violations, tax fraud and illegal actions with banks.
