It will be possible to buy a green card: to whom and for how much
A paid green card is proposed by a new bill in the US Congress, reports NDTV.
If passed, the bill is expected to help people who are currently stuck due to protracted green card processes.
Millions of people stuck for years on a green card reserve based on US employment laws can hope to legally reside in America by paying an additional fee if a new House bill is passed.
A green card, officially known as the Permanent Resident Card, is a document issued to immigrants as proof that the bearer has been granted the privilege of permanent residence in America.
According to the bill submitted to the US House of Representatives, an immigrant applicant who is employed with a priority date for issuing a green card of 2 years or more will be able to obtain the right to permanent residence in the United States simply by paying an “additional fee in the amount of $ 5 ".
The fee will be $ 50 for the EB-000 category (immigrant investors).
For family sponsored immigration a US citizen, with a priority date for issuing a green card of 2 years or more, the fee for its accelerated receipt will be $ 2500.
The additional fee will be $ 1500 if the applicant's priority period does not exceed two years, but he must be present in the country. This fee will be added to any administration fee paid by the applicant.
However, the bill does not contain permanent structural changes in the legal immigration system, including removing restrictions on green cards or increasing annual and regional quotas for the issuance of H-1B visas.
