Thus, in March, immigration officers detained only 12,5 thousand illegal immigrants. This is the lowest arrest rate in the last 17 years. For comparison, in February 2017, more than 43 thousand people who illegally crossed the border were imprisoned.

The Trump administration has not yet approved clear rules for the work of officers at the border, but talk of the president’s tough policy towards illegal immigrants has stopped Mexicans who would like to enter the US illegally. In addition, according to the US authorities, a large number of illegal immigrants left the United States on their own immediately after the presidential election. The number of children crossing the border illegally has also decreased. Last month, services detained less than a thousand children from Honduras, El Salvador and Guatemala.
