State Department is concerned about the continuation of hostilities in the east of Ukraine
State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki said at a briefing on Friday about the situation in Ukraine: “We are extremely concerned about the continuation of hostilities along and outside the confrontation line, including in densely populated areas, as well as information on the supply of additional tanks and rocket launchers, which crossed the Ukrainian border from Russia over the past few days. ”
The US foreign policy department claims that the Tossian military stationed a large number of artillery and rocket launchers around Debaltseve, from where they bombarded the Ukrainian positions.
“We are convinced that we are talking about the Russian military, and not about the separatists. Russian units along the Ukrainian border are preparing a large-scale supply of supplies to pro-Russian forces in eastern Ukraine — this is obviously not in the spirit of the agreement concluded this week. All parties must show complete restraint in anticipation of the Sunday ceasefire, including the immediate cessation of the attack by Debaltseve and other Ukrainian cities by Russia and the separatists, ”Psaki said.
The representative of the State Department added that “all the options that were at our disposal, remain in force - it is obvious that in the coming days we will be closely watching what is happening. There is a schedule according to which the cease-fire officially takes effect, and we will wait some time to make sure that it really happened. ”
Meanwhile, on Friday, the Ukrainian military said that, despite the truce reached, over the past 24 hours, 11 soldiers of the Ukrainian army were killed and another 40 military personnel was injured in battles near the village of Debaltseve.
Regarding the agreement on the exchange of prisoners, Jen Psaki said that from the point of view of the American administration, the agreement should also apply to the Ukrainian pilot Nadezhda Savchenko, writes Voice of America.
