“At the moment, preparations are underway for dock operations, that is, preparations for filling the dock with water, which should lead to the final extinguishing of the boat,” said Ilya Zhitomirsky, head of the USC press service. A representative of the Zvezdochka shipyard, Evgeny Gladyshev, said that preparatory work for flooding could take an hour to an hour and a half.

Earlier, Zvezdochka reported that the operation itself to flood the dry dock would take approximately 5-7 hours.

Fire at the bottom of the boat

According to data from news agencies citing various sources, the extinguishing by ordinary means did not bring results.

The official representative of the Zvyozdochka Ship Repair Center JSC, Evgeny Gladyshev, said that the fire was located in the lower part of the boat, and therefore it was difficult to extinguish it from above.

The nuclear submarine Orel has been undergoing repairs at the Zvezdochka plant in Severodvinsk for several years. It is reported that the fire occurred during fire-related work, possibly welding.

According to the Interfax agency, it is possible that a rubber heater between the light and durable hulls of the submarine caught fire on the submarine.

The nuclear reactor of the submarine was shut down before the start of repair. There was no fuel on board. All the people on board left the boat immediately after the start of the fire.
