Top-10 cities in the world with the highest salaries

Looking for a good salary and a decent lifestyle? Then go to San Francisco and do not forget about Zurich.

San Francisco has risen in the rankings, displacing Zurich from the position of a leader in the rankings of cities with the highest salaries, as well as with the income that remains after paying rent, according to a report by Deutsche Bank “Mapping the Worlds 2019”

In the past five years alone, San Francisco has risen in both ratings to the 7 and 21 positions, respectively.

“Rapid growth in the U.S. tech sector is helping San Franz surpass traditional capital cities in terms of income,” write Jim Reid, Craig Nicol and Henry Allen of Deutsche Bank. “Although the cost of living is rising every year, as is the spending ranking for most of the measures we cover, it still lags behind the world's major capitals. However, in terms of rental costs, the city is second only to Hong Kong.”

Most of the changes are related to the growth of the dollar over the past half decade. This has helped strengthen the position of US cities compared to world peers. The US dollar rose 20% against the euro and 23% against the pound sterling.

Zurich, however, does not give up completely. The Swiss city leads the survey on the quality of life and is number one on the cost of goods and services.

It also remains the most expensive city for dates.

For research, Deutsche Bank converts the prices of products and services worldwide into dollars and mainly uses crowdsourcing for data entry. It also discusses average wages. This means that megacities are often higher in the rankings because there are more people with higher salaries.

As for cigarettes and beer, the index of the most expensive cities in the world for owners of “bad habits”, Deutsche Bank shows that Melbourne took the first place, followed by Oslo, followed by Sydney, Auckland and Dubai.
