A city in Florida has taken the title of best place to celebrate New Year's Eve from New York.

The exodus of New Yorkers to Florida has knocked New York City away from being the best city to celebrate New Year's, according to a new study. Now this place is occupied by a metropolis in Florida. Writes about this Fox News.

The city of Orlando has supplanted New York as the first place in the country for the number of New Year's holidays.

Orlando's rise as a New Year's Eve destination comes after years of Florida growing in popularity while New York state lost its once unrivaled dominance.

According to the 2020 US Census, Florida surpassed New York in population, electoral votes and representatives in Congress.

New York dropped to No. 3 on WalletHub's list of New Year's cities despite its iconic and globally televised festivities in Times Square.

San Diego, California, is the second best city to ring in the New Year, according to a new study from a personal finance company.

Orlando, writes WalletHub, "ranks number one for nightlife options and affordable restaurants with 4,5+ star ratings, so you'll be able to have fun and eat well before 2024 rolls around."

“What holds New York back from being the best overall city is its prices—holiday activities here are much less affordable than in the top two cities,” the organization said.

According to WalletHub, the average couple will spend $872 to ring in the New Year in the country's three largest cities - New York, Los Angeles and Chicago.

One New York City official dismissed the study's findings and said Orlando still couldn't compete with New York.

“It’s comparing apples to oranges,” said Tom Harris, president of the Times Square Alliance.

The Alliance manages activities and events in Times Square, including the New Year's Eve Ball, first held in 1907.

Harris added: “New York City has been where America and the world come to ring in the New Year for many years. There will be a million people in Times Square again this year.”

However, national trends are in Florida's favor.

New York has lost more than 12 residents over the past 100 months, more than any other state, according to new data from the U.S. Census Bureau.

The state also lost billions of dollars in annual tax revenue while billions in new revenue poured into Florida's coffers.

“Orlando's ranking as the #1 destination for New Year's Eve reaffirms that Orlando is the perfect destination because there is something for everyone,” said Casandra Matei, President and CEO of Visit Orlando.

She cited the city's abundance of outdoor family activities as well as "world-famous theme parks" as the reason the city is the best place in the country to celebrate New Year's Eve.

The list included "block parties, concerts and dinner events" as well as numerous "one-of-a-kind fireworks displays."

Fireworks appear to represent the less restrictive political climate in Florida and were highlighted by WalletHub as the reason Orlando tops the list.

“It’s impossible to talk about New Year’s Eve without mentioning fireworks,” the study says. “Orlando has some of the longest running fireworks displays in the country, and consumer fireworks displays are legal so people can put on their own shows.”

San Diego's mild weather helped the sunny city overtake cool New York.

“This is the place to come if you want clear skies and an outdoor celebration and fireworks show,” WalletHub says. “The city has the lowest chance of precipitation on New Year’s Eve.”

WalletHub ranked America's 100 largest cities based on 26 different metrics across three categories: entertainment and food; expenses; safety and accessibility.
