Google translated Russia as "Mordor" due to a glitch in the algorithms
Google explained to the Russian service Bi-bi-si that the online translator Google Translate began to translate in a peculiar way certain words and phrases from Ukrainian into Russian because of a failure in the algorithms.
Earlier it was reported that the name of the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia Sergey Lavrov began to be translated as “Sad horse”, and the phrase “Russian Federation” - as “Mordor” (the habitat of Sauron, the main antagonist in the series “The Lord of the Rings” by the English writer John Tolkien).
On the eve, some Ukrainian media and bloggers also reported that the word "rosiyani" began to be translated in Google Translate as "invaders", but bbcrussian.com did not receive such a result when using the service.
The press service of the Russian representative office of Google, the Russian service of BBC explained that such search results are related to failures in the automatic algorithms that the translator uses.
“Automatic translation is a very complex system as the meaning of words depends on the context in which they are used. Therefore, there are mistakes and incorrect translations, which we try to correct as soon as possible, as soon as we learn about them, ”the press service said.
