The Google Maps service changed the names of Ukrainian settlements, renamed under the law on de-communization.

So, instead of the city of Ilyichevsk - now Chernomorsk, Krasny Liman in the Donetsk region became simply Liman, and Dzerzhinsk changed its name to Toretsk.

At the same time, several geographical points of Ukraine still bear the former Soviet names.

For example, the name Artemovsk remains in Google Maps for now, but with the query “Bakhmut” the service easily finds a settlement in the Donetsk region.

A similar situation with the Zavodsky Poltava region, which was called Krasnozavodskoe.

Poltava became the only regional center that did not begin decommunization.

As ForumDaily wrote earlier, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted a package providing for ban on the use of Soviet and Nazi symbols.

The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine took four laws, in which there is a condemnation of the Nazi and communist regimes, the opening of the archives of the Soviet secret services and the recognition of the Ukrainian insurgent army and other underground organizations operating in the XX century fighters for the independence of Ukraine.

The Ukrainian parliament called these laws a “decommunization package.”

It is also forbidden to use Soviet and Nazi symbols, including in souvenirs.
