Leonardo DiCaprio demanded the release of killer whales and belugas in Russia
Hollywood actor Leonardo DiCaprio called the content of killer whales and belugas in the bay under Nakhodka "inhuman capture."

He posted on Facebook and Twitter a link to a petition calling for the release of animals.

About hundreds of killer whales and belugas, which they wanted to illegally sell to Chinese aquariums, have been kept in Sredny Bay near Nakhodka at least since last October. Because of the narrowness of the zoo, defenders called animal enclosures "whale prison." Three belugas and killer whales have already disappeared from the bay; perhaps they died.
The Investigative Committee of Russia initiated cases of illegal extraction of aquatic biological resources and cruel treatment of killer whales and beluga whales in Primorye. Russian President Vladimir Putin instructed the Ministry of Natural Resources to decide the fate of marine mammals.
Leonardo DiCaprio founded a foundation that deals with the protection of animals.
Previously, actress and zoodefender Pamela Anderson called upon Vladimir Putin to stop capturing killer whales and white whales for sale in Chinese aquariums.
Pamela Anderson is one of the most active fighters for animal rights from among Hollywood stars. She took part in the campaign “I’d rather walk naked than wear fur,” spoke out against KFC and Canadian whalers. In 1999, the actress won the Linda McCartney Prize for her appearances in defense of animals.
