Heroes who ensured the survival of schoolchildren in a Thai cave: who are they

The 12 rescue mission for young footballers and their coach, trapped in a cave in northern Thailand, included more than 1000 people from several countries around the world.

After the successful completion of the operation, the efforts of four people and one group were assessed above all, thanks to which the schoolchildren managed to survive in the cave for more than two weeks and get out alive, the newspaper writes Time.

However, after the rescue, it is he who is called the man who ensured the survival of the guys in the cave without food supplies. Ekkapol joined the Buddhist clergy after the death of their parents. His meditative skills played a significant role in ensuring the survival of schoolchildren.

Narongsak Oskottanakorn - former governor and head of the rescue mission

At a time when students were trapped in a cave, Oskottanakorn was nearing the end of his term as governor of Chiang Rai province. After the transfer of power, he remained the head of the rescue mission, it was to his leadership qualities and determination that the rescued were obliged to complete the operation successfully.

During the 18-day mission, Oskottanakorn was constantly near the cave to keep track of what was happening.

Samarn Kunan - deceased former Thai Navy SEAL

This retired Thai Navy officer SEAL sacrificed his life to help save football players. Samarn, who had previously served as a security officer at the Thailand Airports Authority in Bangkok, volunteered to help place oxygen cylinders for divers along the rescue route. He was found unconscious by another diver after completing his mission on July 6; several attempts to reanimate him were unsuccessful.

Park gained instant fame in Thailand after he ventured into the cave and helped the victims. He is an Army doctor who completed SEAL training and was therefore willing to go underwater to treat schoolchildren. Staying inside the cave for several nights, Dr. Park cared for the teenagers, treating them and assessing their condition in preparation for the rescue mission.

Thai employees of the Navy SEAL remained in place from the beginning to the end of the operation, providing food for the captives, preparing them for the dive, and also directly participating in the operation. Initially, 18 members of this division arrived at the cave, but over time, due to the deterioration of the situation, their number increased to 60 people.

Recall a group of teenagers 11-16 years and their 25-year-old football coach disappeared on June 23 in the Tham Luang cave complex, where they went on an excursion. Because of the torrential rains that started in the cave, water began to flow sharply, and they were forced to go four kilometers deep, thus being cut off from the entrance.

The search for the missing football team lasted nine days. 2 July teenagers discovered British divers John Volanten and Rick Stanton. They were found on a hill about 4 km from the cave entrance.

All 13 people were alive and almost intact, although very weak, since they spent nine days in darkness and without food.

The group began to deliver food, oxygen cylinders and other supplies. During surgery killed the diver - Former Thai Navy soldier. The foreman Samarn Kunan delivered the oxygen tanks to the boys and their coach, while he lost consciousness on the way back. Kunana pulled his partner out, but could not save him.

The situation was focused on the attention of the whole world, readiness to assist in the rescue of undergrowth expressed the American entrepreneur Ilon Musk.

As a result, on July 10, the most difficult rescue operation was completed - divers were able to teach children the basics of diving and lead them through a flooded narrow dark cave. In operation was attended by two Ukrainian divers.
