NATO Secretary General announced Russia's 'last chance' to fulfill nuclear treaty with US

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that Russia has the last chance to “return to fulfillment” of the Treaty on the Elimination of Intermediate-Range and Shorter-Range Missiles (INF) until February 2019.

If this does not happen, then, according to the head of NATO, the treaty will collapse, writes Mail.ru.

“I will not speculate on how likely it is that Russia will return to the compliance with the INF. The important thing is that Russia has the last chance. If Russia does not return to compliance, then we will have a big problem, because the INF Treaty will collapse, ”the NATO Secretary General said, commenting on Washington’s statements that the US could withdraw from the agreement in February if Russia does not return to its implementation.

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo 4 December said that Russia has two months to “return to implementation” of the INF. He added that if this does not happen, Washington will suspend its obligations under the INF.

Deputy Secretary of State for Arms Control and International Security, Andrea Thompson, said that US calls on Russia to abandon 9М729 rocket (SSC-8) or modify the system so that its range does not violate the provisions of the INF. Russia insists that this rocket does not violate the terms of the contract.
