Prosecutor General of Ukraine did not see offenses in the scandalous activities of Joe Biden

The charges surfaced after investigating Biden’s actions in Ukraine, while his son, Hunter Biden, was on the board of directors of Burisma Group, one of the largest private gas companies in the country. Yuriy Lutsenko, the current attorney general, said that neither Hunter Biden nor the Burisma Group are currently under investigation. “I don’t want Ukraine to be a topic of conversation again during the U.S. presidential election,” Lutsenko said in an interview Tuesday at his office in Kyiv. — Hunter Biden did not violate any Ukrainian laws, at least at the moment we do not see any violations. The company can pay whatever it wants to its board of directors.” He added that if there is a problem with taxes, it is not in Ukraine.

Giuliani himself explained the cancellation of the visit by saying that he could “find himself in a group of people who are enemies of the president, and in some cases enemies of the United States.”

“There was a serious fear that the new [Ukrainian] president would be surrounded, literally, by the enemies of the president [of the United States] and people who - at least in one case - are clearly corrupt and involved in this scheme,” he said on Fox TV News.

Biden also called the statements of Giuliani "personal attacks."

“I can’t think of a single lawyer representing a president who has consulted with the president and decided to go abroad to force a government that is counting on U.S. largesse to investigate something that everyone knows never happened,” Biden said.

Biden declined to comment further. Giuliani did not respond to a request for comment.

From his office in Kiev, Lutsenko said that Giuliani sent him an invitation for an audience in New York at the end of last year. For two days, while the meeting lasted, they talked about the Ukrainian political situation and the fight against corruption. Giuliani asked him about the investigation of the case against the owner of Burisma Nikolay Zlochevsky, and also about whether the US ambassador to Ukraine Marie Yovanovitch was “disloyal to President Trump.” In February, they met again in Poland, where Giuliani delivered a speech at a rally against Tehran on the eve of the US summit on Iran.

As for the US ambassador to Ukraine Marie Yovanovitch, Lutsenko told Giuliani that his relations with the ambassador were not friendly enough to express his opinion about Trump.

As part of a five-year investigation, the Prosecutor General's Office of Ukraine found out whether the deal Kurchenko on the purchase of an oil storage terminal in southern Ukraine helped Zlochevsky in November 2013 launder money. According to Lutsenko, the transaction took place several months before Hunter Biden joined the board of directors of Burisma.

“Biden definitely didn’t participate,” Lutsenko said. “We have no reason to believe that there has been any wrongdoing since 2014.”

According to the Prosecutor General, there is no additional investigation into Zlochevsky and Burisma.

"Notice of Suspicion"

According to Lutsenko, prosecutors sent Zlochevsky a "notice of suspicion" and asked him to appear for questioning in the Kurchenko case, but he never appeared. Zlochevsky did not respond to requests for comments sent via Burisma, and his lawyer declined to comment.

The Attorney General stressed that the current investigation "in no way" concerns Burisma.

The sale of the Kurchenko business by Zlochevsky was part of an investigation conducted by the UK Anti-Fraud Office in 2014. He was closed after the Ukrainian prosecutors did not provide information for the promotion of the case and stopped their own investigation of the case. Another investigation of unpaid taxes by Burisma was conducted in 2016 year.

“All cases against Burisma were closed,” Lutsenko said. “I don’t see any wrongdoing among foreigners who worked for Burisma in Ukraine.”

Lutsenko's future as prosecutor general, a job he has said he would like to keep, is uncertain. Zelensky, Ukraine's new president, will be sworn in on May 20 and has promised to appoint a new prosecutor general.
