Where do the most obese people live in the US: state rankings
7 in 10 U.S. adults age 20 and older are overweight or obese, with health problems worse in some states than others, reports BeckersHospitalReview.
The ranking of US states with the highest and lowest obesity rates for 2023 was compiled by the company Wallethub. It compared states on 31 indicators across three dimensions: obesity and overweight prevalence, health outcomes, and nutrition and fitness.
Indicators include the proportion of adults, adolescents and children who are overweight and obese, the proportion of adults, adolescents and children who are physically inactive, and the proportion of adults with hypertension, high cholesterol and type 2 diabetes, among other comorbidities.

West Virginia is the most overweight state overall, with 41,3% of the state's adults classified as obese and another 32,6% classified as overweight but not obese.
