Where to pick apples in the USA: the best orchards and farms in each state

There are many farms and orchards throughout the United States where apples can be harvested. No matter where you are in the USA, you can always find the best places for such an autumn pastime next to you, informs Parade.

Many people look forward to the fall season because of the special freshness of the air - you want to experience everything that life has to offer! This is the perfect time for classic fall apple picking. You throw on cozy sweaters, drink a nice hot cider (or pumpkin spice latte), and watch the leaves change color—there's something about that fall experience that's incredibly calming.

Apple pie, apple cider donuts, apple porridge, apple pies, applesauce—many of our favorite apple desserts become readily available in the fall season.

Alabama - Isom's Orchard, Athens

Isom's Orchard is located at 24012 US-72 approximately 4 km east of I-65 in Athens. Although Isom's does not currently offer a pickup, they do sell apples at their market (seasonal from August to December). Flowers and grapes are offered here for picking!

Alaska -Clark's Apple Orchard, LLC, South Anchorage

Clark's Apple Orchard is located at 3200 Rabbit Creek Road in South Anchorage, "where rain and sun grow their apples." The orchard was first planted in the 1960s and is usually open from 10:00 am to 14:00 pm on one or two Saturdays from late August to mid-September (dates vary from year to year and depend on the degree of ripeness of the apples). Tickets went on sale August 1, 2023 for this season, but due to weather in 2023.

Arizona - Apple Annie's Orchard, Willcox

Apple Annie's Family Farm, located at 2081 W Hardy Road in Willcox, invites you to pick your own apples, pears and peaches! During your visit, you can also check out their garden grill, village gift shop, hayfields, and corn mazes! Apple Annie's Orchard is open Tuesday through Sunday, July through September from 8:00 am to 17:00 pm. You can see the dates of the best time for picking apples. here.

Arkansas -Cox Berry Farm & Nursery, Clarksville

From September to October, you can pick apples at Cox Berry Farm, located at 1081 Hwy 818 in Clarksville, right on Mount Redlick. Other fun activities you won't want to miss include collecting pumpkins, exploring the pumpkin trail, and taking photos throughout the farm!

California -Los Rios Rancho, Oak Glen

Los Rios Rancho is the largest apple farm in Southern California, operating since 1906. Their apple season starts this September and usually runs until November, 7 days a week. But year-round you can enjoy slow-cooked meats, fresh pastries, mountain hikes, village dances and much more! Start your fall off in a memorable way at 39611 Oak Glen Road in Oak Glen!

Colorado - Big B's Fruit Company, Hotchkiss

Big B's is located in the North Fork Valley of Colorado, 1,5 kilometers west of Paonia on CO Hwy 133 (39126 CO-133, Hotchkiss). Altitude, Rocky Mountain water, cold nights and warm days make for some of the best fruits in the world. You can pick apples from July to November, you can also visit the cafe and strong cider tasting room!

Connecticut - Bishop's Orchards, Guildford

Apples (over 20 varieties) from Bishop's Orchards are available from late August to late October. And even after the picking season, they always have a wide variety of apples to choose from all year round at the farmers' market thanks to special storage facilities that keep the apples "fresh as a tree" long after they've been picked. Visit them at 1355 Boston Post Road in Guildford!

Delaware - Fifer Orchards, Camden, Wyoming

Fifer Orchards, open 10:00 am to 17:00 pm on Saturdays in the fall for apple picking, also offers weekday private pick party options. Plus, there's an assortment of blueberries, strawberries, peaches, pumpkins and sunflowers to pick at various times of the year - pick them up at 1919 Allabands Mill Road in Camden, Wyoming!

Florida -Dooley Groves, Ruskin

Unfortunately, there are no apple orchards in Florida. However, there are other collection options in the Sunshine State that will bring you to 1651 Stephens Road in Ruskin! Seasonally, from Christmas until March or April, Dooley Groves offers a selection of Honeybells (a delicious citrusy hybrid of tangerines and grapefruits). This is the largest Honeybell Grove in the state - over 6500 trees!

Georgia - BJ Reece Orchards, Ellijay

From 9:00 am to 17:00 pm any day from August 27 to October 30 (depending on the season), you can visit 9131 Highway 52 East in Ellijay to pick BJ Reece Orchards apples. You can also visit the market and the bakery as well as the contact farm!

Hawaii - Kula Country Farms, Kula

While there are no apple orchards in Hawaii, you can pick pumpkins at 6240 Kula Highway - Kula Country Farms! During October, gourd hunting takes place daily.

Idaho - Cabalos Orchard, Kuna

Cabalos Orchard (2087 W. King Road in Coon) is open for apple picking from August to October, subject to availability. And for even more fall fun, in October they offer hay rides and access to their pumpkin patch!

Illinois - Goebbert's Pumpkin Patch and Apple Orchard, Pingree Grove

Apple picking is just one of Goebbert's many activities at the Fall Festival. Here, among other entertainment, you will find a straw maze and even the opportunity to feed the giraffe on the farm! You can look up their location at 42W813 Reinking Road in Pingree Grove, IL.

Indiana -Garwood Orchards, LaPorte

Garwood Orchards has been around for over 180 years and is located at 5911 W 50 South in LaPorte! Their heritage includes Garwood Grille, Bake Shoppe & Gelato Bar and a seasonal apple picker available from late August to November.

IowaAllen's Orchard, Marion

Allen's Orchard has been picking apples on the family farm for over 50 years. Aside from the open season where you can pick your own apples, you can also find fresh produce, North Star Tart cherries, and treats like the caramel apples and donuts they are famous for! Stop at the orchard located at 5801 N 10th Street in Marion.

Kansas - Meadowlark Farm, Rose Hill

Head to 11249 SW 160th Street in Rose Hill to harvest at Meadowlark Farm! While there, depending on the season, you can pick apples (mid-July to November), strawberries, peaches, visit pumpkin patches and/or have a drink at their Hard Cidery.
