Harvard withdrew introductory offers for applicants posting abusive memes

At least 10 prospective students at Harvard University, who were invited to attend the 2021 school year, lost the opportunity to study at this institution, because the university withdrew their education offers due to the fact that teenagers shared frank and offensive memes in social networks.

Memes were published in December 2016, in a closed group in Facebook called Harvard memes for horny bourgeois teensformed on the basis of the official group of Harvard students of the 2021 school year, writes New York Post.

Some of the images contained mockery of sexual abuse, the Holocaust and the death of children.

Many of the band members do not consider memes offensive, calling them simply “frivolous”.

One of the chat participants said that university staff asked him in April 2017 to show the memes he published in the group. After that, his invitation to study was withdrawn.

“The Admissions Committee was disappointed to learn that several students in a private group chat for the 2021 class sent messages containing offensive language and graphics. Since you were among the participants in this chat, we ask that you provide information about what you posted in this chat, as well as explain your actions for further discussion by the admissions committee,” the letters that the chat participants received read.

After that, some students were informed that the status of their admission to the university is in revision mode. After about a week, at least the 10 group members were informed that their invitations to study were withdrawn.

Opinions of students on this issue were divided, many noted that this limits the freedom of people to express their opinions, but some agreed that teenagers have crossed the line, and there are topics that you just can't joke about.
