A film about events in Ukraine shown in the US Congress

The Oscar-nominated film Winter in Fire about the events of Euromaidan was shown on the most politically important screen of the American capital - in the US Congress.

Viewing the tape was organized jointly by the office of Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur and the Embassy of Ukraine in the United States.

“In Ukraine, thousands of people died defending freedom. For me, it remains a shock that so little is reported about it in the West, ”said Marcy Kaptur, Congresswoman from Ohio.

The film was watched by assistants to congressmen and senators, as well as government officials.

The former host of “Rush Toad” Liz Wall came to the congress show and announced her retirement live to protest the lies about the events in Ukraine: “The film shows that various Ukrainians have come to the Maidan. There were students, teachers, women, men, old people - all came out together for the sake of the common future of Ukraine. And this directly refutes the Russian presentation of events, which I saw that, they say, the opposition was a gang of criminals, fascists and neo-Nazis. ”

The film director Evgeny Afineevsky looks tired and alarmed. The last days before Oscar are not easy for him: “As for a person who was there with people who became my family, I feel responsible to the parents of the guys from the Heavenly Hundred, with whom I spoke. This film - as a monument to children who are no longer returned. Monument to the people who were there. And this responsibility holds me and does not let go. ”

The film's producer Dan Tolmor tells: the competition in the nomination “Best Documentary Film” this year is extreme. But the main thing is for film academics to at least watch the film: “They get a package from about 70 DVD. And they should, in theory, look at each and tick off the one for whom they vote. But, as we understand, physically there is no time for it. They watch what they are interested in, what they specialize in, or what their neighbor told them, or what they saw in the news. Unfortunately, this is true. The Oscar statuette is in the hands of six thousand two hundred people who may not have watched this film. ”

If the film does get an Oscar, says its director, then even more people will see the tape and learn about the struggle of the Ukrainian people.
