The feds promise resident status to illegals in exchange for information about the gang MS-13

Critics of the bill, which obliges refugee cities to identify and deport illegal immigrants, argue that immigrants will refuse to assist ICE in identifying members of the gangster group MS-13.

ICE says they have a number of tools — including a change in visa status — to motivate immigrants to work with them.

One of the law enforcement officers anonymously told Fox Newsthat most illegal migrants are interested in obtaining resident status more than financial rewards.

Critics of this FBI initiative caution and say that the visa tool should be used with caution, as this can lead to fraud.

“Gang members take advantage of illegal migrants and exploit vulnerable people. Illegal immigrants do not want to be victims of the gang and therefore cooperate with us,” said the head of the smuggling department, Eddie Wang.

“We have a very strong program to help gang victims. We inform undocumented immigrants about the options available to them to become legal residents if they cooperate with law enforcement,” Wang said.

Thus, illegal immigrants can obtain an S visa, which works for witnesses and informants, a T visa for victims of human trafficking, and a U visa for victims of violence.

However, according to Wong, ICE prefers to use the mechanism Significant Public Benefit Parole. If the witness refuses to testify, or his information turns out to be empty, then this privilege can be noted. In the case of a change in visa status - it is more difficult to do.

Gang called Mara salvatrucha, also known as MS-13, was created at the beginning of 1980's in Los Angeles by immigrants from El Salvador. Currently, according to the UN, in the countries of Central America at least 24 000 people are in the ranks of this group. The US Department of Justice believes that their number can reach 30 000. More than 10 000 of them operate in the United States.
