In the US, began to sell a mobile application-contraceptive: how it works

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has authorized the sale in the US of a mobile application that helps prevent unwanted pregnancies, writes USA Today.

It was developed by the Stockholm-based company Natural Cycles, it positions the development as an application for contraception, in which a woman sees days when there is a risk of getting pregnant. The application works on the basis of data on body temperature and menstrual cycle, which users enter into it.

Women using the app should take daily body temperature. The application groups the days, marking them with green and red. During the red days, users are advised to avoid sex or use protection, such as condoms.

“Consumers are increasingly using digital technology to make health care decisions, and this app could be an effective contraceptive method if users use it carefully and correctly,” said Terri Cornelison, assistant director for women's health at the FDA Center.

According to the Natural Cycles website, the app is 93% effective for preventing unwanted pregnancy.

Cornelison warns that, despite the high level of efficiency, the application is not a reliable solution providing 100% protection.

Earlier a scandal arose around the application The Advertising Standards Authority from the UK launched an investigation against Natural Cycles, accusing the company of becoming pregnant after using this program.

In Sweden, they also conducted an investigation against the company after 37 women stated that they became pregnant, despite using the application.
