FBI hid from US officials that hackers tried to hack their mail

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) hid from US officials, including senior executives, that hackers from the group tried to hack their mailboxes Fancy Bear, which is associated with the Russian government.

Among the victims of the perpetrators, who were known in the department, were the military, diplomats and intelligence officers, writes The Washington Post.

During the 2016 year, the FBI had evidence of Russian hacker attempts from Fancy bear hack electronic correspondence of a number of American civil servants. At the same time, the bureau did not inform any of these citizens about the attacks, despite the fact that most of them have access to secret information.

The FBI refused to answer journalists' questions, saying that the agency "regularly informs citizens and organizations about the potential threats to which personal information is exposed."

Recall that in 2016, the data published as a result of hacking e-mail of the Democratic Party and ex-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's correspondence led to scandals, a fall in the Clinton rating in the US presidential election, and a consequence against the former first lady. US intelligence agencies accused of hacking Russia.
