Fatal Painkiller: Seven Dead in Sacramento County
18-year-old resident of Eldorado Hills, California, has become the seventh victim of a strong painkiller in Sacramento County since March 24. In total, at least 30 people found themselves in hospitals with suspected overdose.
Fentanyl, a drug contained in painkillers, was reported to be the cause. It is used mainly as an analgesic in anesthesiology and is often disguised as other drugs.
In addition, the local medical center UC Davis reported on Thursday about another patient who has an overdose of fentanyl. This is the 17 case in this institution, according to its official representative.
“This is an emergency,” Sacaramento County Health Officer Olivia Kasirye told the Sacramento Bee. “Because of what toxicologists have told us, there has been a sharp increase in incidents in a short period.”
According to preliminary data, the potent opioid fentanyl was either released as part of the pain killer Norco, or disguised as a prescription drug and was spread illegally from the hands on the streets.
Investigators, according to Sacramento District Police Officer Tony Turnbull, are working in conjunction with healthcare professionals to determine the circumstances of the incidents. Among other things, they are interested in knowing whether the people taking the drug knew that it contained fentanyl.
Police Eldorado Hills опубликовала a photograph of the counterfeit hydrocodone tablets, which include fentanyl, with a call not to take them in the case of a purchase already made.
