Facebook removed Trump's campaign ad due to Nazi symbols

Facebook said it removed an advertisement for President Donald Trump’s campaign headquarters that contained a symbol used in Nazi Germany, writes Air force.

The banners of the official pages of the president, as well as vice president Mike Pence, used a red triangle with the top facing down. In Nazi concentration camps, such a sign was found on the uniform of political prisoners, in particular the Communists.

Trump's campaign said it was a symbol of the left-wing Antifa movement, which the president blames for organizing protests against racism in policing and provoking violence during those protests.

Independent observers say that Antifa in the United States does not function as a single organization, and its participation in protests and riots after the murder of George Floyd is barely noticeable. In addition, Antifa often uses a different emblem.

“We do not allow symbols that represent hate organizations or ideologies except with context or condemnation,” said Facebook's head of network safety, Nathaniel Gleicher.

The ad said: “Dangerous crowds of far-left groups are running through our streets and destroying everything in their path,” the New York Times quoted. The banner hung for about a day.

“The inverted red triangle is a symbol used by Antifa, which is why it was included in the Antifa ad,” Trump campaign spokesman Tim Murtaugh said. — Facebook still has an inverted red triangle emoji; it looks exactly the same.”

Some left-wing anti-fascist groups in Europe, such as Germany and the UK, have actually adopted this symbol in recent years, just as, for example, LGBT activists appropriated the pink triangle used in concentration camps for homosexuals.
