Jews are forbidden to pass through a metal detector on Saturdays
Chief Rabbi of the Western Wall (Kotel) Shmuel Rabinovich said today, October 9, that Jews are prohibited from passing through the metal detector gates that Israeli police have begun installing at the entrance to the Old City in Jerusalem on Saturdays.
According to the Jerusalem Rabbi, in the already installed magnometers (frames with metal detectors) there are no special devices to observe the Sabbath.
“The magnometers placed at the entrance to the Old City are intended exclusively for checking suspected terrorists, and are in no way intended for Jews,” Rabinovich said. “And since they do not have Shabbat devices installed, Jews are not allowed to pass through them on Shabbat.”
Yesterday the Israeli police announced that begins to install metal detectors at some gates of the Old City, in order to avoid bringing fire and cold weapons into its territory.
At the moment, the magnometer is installed at the main entrance to the Old City at the Jaffa Gate, and it remains unclear whether additional similar devices will be placed in other places.
Previously "Forum" писалthat, due to the numerous appeals of football players wishing to observe the Sabbath, the district labor court decided to temporarily prohibit playing games on Saturdays.
Shabbat is the seventh day of the week, which is essentially a holiday for Jews. Already one day before the Shabbat, the Jews begin to wish each other “Shabbat Shalom”, that is, “peaceful Saturday” or “hello, Saturday”. The main rule of Shabbat - a person should not work.
