Exhibition 'The Last Supper in Pompeii'
In 79 AD, the Gulf of Naples was shaken by the fiery eruption of Vesuvius. Pompeii and the surrounding villages and farms were completely buried under the incandescent ash, leaving thousands dead. These bodies are a vivid reminder of the catastrophe, but like a fly caught in amber, the surviving one gives us an idea of what life was like in a thriving Roman city.
The exhibition takes us back to this world, focusing on everyday life, especially food and drink. In addition to pots, pans and other utensils for serving, preparing and serving food, this exhibit includes magnificent works of art that showcase the splendor and luxury that were so beloved by the wealthy Romans who called Pompeii their home.
