'This is the tip of the iceberg': 50 people died from its effects a year after the Camp Fire

Officially, 86 people died as a result of a fire in the center of Butte, north of Sacramento.

According to the addresses provided in the violent death lawsuits filed in the trial against Pacific Gas & Electric Co, another 50 elderly and sick people lived in nursing homes and patient care facilities near the epicenter of the fire. The company's equipment was identified as the source of the fire.

The lawsuit also names a husband and wife from Paradise, California - a city destroyed by fire - who died within months of each other, a victim who had a stroke after leaving her medication behind while running from the fire, and 95- a year-old woman who was transported after surgery from Paradise Hospital to the medical center, where she soon died due to infection with norovirus.

The publication reports that more than a year after the fire, victims are still dying due to complications, including inhalation of smoke and emotional stress.
