This is not the USA for you: an American was shocked by the bill for treatment in a hospital in Morocco
A US traveler was stunned by a Moroccan hospital bill he received. After spending the whole night in the emergency room and receiving medication, the traveler's bill was $31, reports MSN.
23-year-old Christian Grossi, a US travel blogger, shared his account of his last day in Morocco. After severe food poisoning, Grossi was in such a bad condition that he had to go to the hospital.
Grossi recounts how after uploading his recent video about food poisoning in North Africa, he became very dizzy. Deciding to go to a store near his Airbnb accommodation, he passed out on the street.
Grossi was then woken up by four Moroccan men pouring water over him, speaking all Arabic except for the words "hospital".
Given the state he was in, Grossi allowed the men to take him to the hospital. When he arrived, he was immediately admitted to the intensive care unit. He was connected to two machines, one for antibiotics and one for anti-nausea medication. Grossi details how he passed out again.

The viral video, which has now garnered 2,3 million views, documents Grossi's 24-hour stay in a Moroccan hospital as a traveler without health insurance.
Some time after reawakening, the nurse explained that he was well enough to return home. Knowing he had no health insurance, Grossi expected a big bill.
To his surprise, a night in the emergency room and 4 separate medications cost him $31 in cash.

The reaction to his TikTok videos showed a stark difference between healthcare in the US and elsewhere. One commenter wrote: "Bro, waiting in the lobby of an American hospital will cost you 20k (@Bogie)".
Another commented: "When Americans find out healthcare isn't all that expensive and in some countries it's free" (@EllisButler).

Many others have reached out to the comments section to talk about the fact that healthcare (and education) is usually free in Morocco. It appears that Grossi attended a "non-government/private" hospital, not a free one.
