44-th US President Barack Obama actively supported Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, arguing that the victory of Republican Donald Trump could be dangerous for the US because of his sexist and xenophobic statements.
When Trump won, Obama, like many Americans supporting Clinton, found it difficult to realize, reports SF Gate.
But still he was able to find the right words to explain the outcome of the presidential race to his daughters.
“I told them that people are complicated. Different communities and cultures are indeed very complex. This is not mathematics, it is rather biology and chemistry. These are living organisms, and they are chaotic. And it is your responsibility—as citizens and good people—to develop and promote relationships between people based on kindness, respect and understanding. And you must understand that at any moment there may be a situation of blind commitment to something that you will have to face, or you will have to confront some feeling within you. And it won't stop. But you shouldn’t hide from this, you shouldn’t start talking about the approaching apocalypse. You have to look closely and find the points that you can click on so that the situation develops in a positive direction,” Obama said.
Perhaps it is based on this principle that the communication between Obama and Trump after the elections does not take place in such intense tones as before the elections.
