'This is a historic breakthrough': Trump unveiled a plan to resolve the Palestinian-Israeli conflict

On January 28, US President Donald Trump presented the Middle East peace plan developed by his administration to resolve the conflict between Israel and the Palestinians. In the afternoon, the White House hosted a joint conference between President Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, "Voice of America".

In his speech, Netanyahu expressed appreciation to President Trump, his administration, and the peace plan team.

The head of the Israeli government expressed support for US actions in the Middle East, including measures to deter Iran and, in particular, the operation against Suleimani. Netanyahu said the problem of Palestinian refugees should be addressed outside of Israel.

The closest the Palestinians and Israelis came to resolving the conflict was almost 30 years ago, in 1993, at secret talks in Oslo with the participation of Shimon Peres, who was then Israel's foreign minister, and Mahmoud Abbas, then the head of the government of the Palestinian Authority.

The first agreement was signed in August 1993, and already in early September, Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin and the leader of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) Yasser Arafat exchanged friendly letters of mutual recognition.

Then Israel for the first time recognized the PLO as the legitimate representative of the Palestinians in the negotiations.

Soon, however, Yitzhak Rabin was killed in Tel Aviv by a representative of the ultra-right Israeli wing, who opposed dialogue with the Palestinian side.
