'More than we expected': a growing number of pilots claiming to have encountered UFOs
According to the New York Times report, an increasing number of pilots of the Navy claiming that they had discovered unidentified flying objects, or UFOs, forced the Navy to update its protocol for such messages.
In 2007, the Pentagon started a hidden program titled "Advanced Space Activity Threat Identification Program." It was intended to study the radar data, the videos received by the pilots, and the reports of senior officers who reported that they had seen a UFO. The program officially ended in 2012, amid lack of funds. But the Navy continued to investigate military reports of UFOs.

UFO reports occurred almost daily between the 2014 and 2015 years on the East Coast. Naval pilots reported that they saw flying objects that did not have a visible engine or exhaust plumes, however, they flew at hypersonic speed.

One of the Super Hornet pilots said at the end of 2014 that he encountered a UFO. Lieutenant Ryan Graves, who served in the Navy for 10 years, told The Times: “Those things were there all day. Keeping an aircraft in the air requires a significant amount of energy. At the speeds we saw, 12 hours in the air is 11 hours more than we expected.”
Experts, however, caution against extraterrestrial explanations. Senior astrophysicist Leon Golub, quoted by The Times, said that "there are many other reasons: errors in the code for visualization and display systems, atmospheric effects and reflections, neurological overload during high-speed flight."

Earlier this year, the Navy issued new secret instructions on how to report such incidents "in response to unknown, improved flying objects flying near the strike forces of the Navy or other sensitive military targets."
