Musk is recruiting employees for the Department of Efficiency: who they are looking for and how much they promise to pay

The Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) is an agency created by newly elected President Donald Trump to find ways to reduce federal spending. The department is hiring and is now accepting applications. The initiative is led by billionaires Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy, reports CBS News.

The job posting was posted on November 14 by DOGE, a new account on Musk’s X (formerly Twitter) platform. Despite its ambitious goals, DOGE is not an official government department. In a statement released on November 12, Trump described Musk and Ramaswamy as advisers who would provide “outside, outside-of-government advice.”

It's unclear at this point where DOGE's funding will come from, what its budget is expected to be, or whether Musk, the world's richest man, and Ramaswamy, who is worth an estimated $1 billion, will be paid for their work.

Meanwhile, DOGE is already starting the recruitment process. A post on X, where the account already has 1,2 million followers, talks about finding candidates.

What are the requirements for candidates?

The ad does not specify specific educational or professional experience requirements, but rather describes the type of people DOGE wants on its team:

"We need revolutionaries with super high IQs who support the idea of ​​minimal government and who are willing to work 80+ hours a week on routine tasks to cut costs."

The advert stresses that they are not looking for "yet another part-time idea generator".

How to Apply for a Job at DOGE

The post states that interested candidates should send a private message (DM) to the DOGE account along with their resume. However, at the time of posting, the DOGE account was not accepting messages.

"Great start: 'DM this account with a request,'" one user noted. "Sadly, messages are unavailable."

Even after the DOGE account opened messages, not all X platform users were able to send their resumes. Only verified users or those DOGE added to their subscriptions could send a private message. At the moment, the DOGE account is not subscribed to any X users, and the verification fee on the platform is $84 per year.

According to DOGE, only the “top 1% of applications” will be reviewed personally by Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy. However, the post does not specify how exactly the applications will be ranked.

How much do they pay to work at DOGE

The ad doesn't include salary or bonus information, but Musk clarified in a separate post that the 80-hour-a-week job comes with zero pay."

"This will be tedious work, you will make a lot of enemies, and the pay is zero. What a great deal!" Musk wrote.

How do people react to the ad?

The reactions of users are varied: some ask questions, others joke, and still others support Musk and Trump.

"Anything over 40 hours will be paid overtime, right?" one user asked in response to the ad.

Some people took this with humor and simply joked:

Another user boasted:

An interesting comment came from Republican politician Valentina Gomez: "I am ready to cut the budget and leave a mark. First up: TSA, IRS, ATF."

As for Valentina Gomez herself, a politician from Missouri and a person who has become passionate about Musk’s ideas for streamlining the government apparatus, the Republican became famous for a video in which she burns library books with a flamethrower.

She said she was going to get rid of books that she believed were “educating, indoctrinating, and sexualizing our children.” Among the books burned were Naked: The Unconventional Sex Encyclopedia and QUEER: The Ultimate LGBTQ+ Guide for Teens.

The books, taken from a Missouri public library, are seen by Gomez as examples of materials that should not be available to young people. Gomez has vowed to combat the distribution of such publications. The video has sparked widespread backlash on social media, with hundreds of thousands of views. Many have criticized her actions as hateful and intolerant, while some of Gomez's supporters have welcomed the move as a way to protect children.

Yeah! Better to be able to masterfully burp the alphabet or fart the national anthem than to be able to burn library books with a flamethrower.
