FedEx employee froze to death: in the US, 18 people have already died from the cold

Police believe that the extreme cold that hit the country this week caused his death, writes CNN.

The man, whose name was not made public, became one of the 18 people who died as a result of extreme weather conditions in the Midwest.

The body of a man between two tractors was discovered by one of his colleagues in the morning of January 31. It is unclear how long the worker was there, moreover, it is not clear why he was at all near the center, which was closed on Wednesday due to cold weather.

It has been very cold in the Molina area this week. At the airport, located just 10 miles (16 kilometers) from the FedEx facility, temperatures dropped below zero Fahrenheit (-29 degrees Celsius) on the afternoon of Jan. 18 and did not rise above that level until Thursday evening. Wednesday's low temperature was -29 degrees Fahrenheit (-34 Celsius); and Thursday's low is minus 33 degrees Fahrenheit (-36 Celsius).

“We are saddened by the loss of our team member and extend our condolences to his family and friends. We are cooperating with local authorities as they investigate,” FedEx said in a statement issued Feb. 1.

The company clarified that some of its centers were closed this week or were working on a limited schedule due to extreme cold, because FedEx did not want to jeopardize the health and well-being of its employees.

From 18 deaths related to extreme weather this week, 8 happened in Iowa, where several car accidents occurred due to heavy snowfall. Weather related deaths are also Were registered in Illinois, Michigan, Minnesota, Indiana and Wisconsin.
