Ex-Immigration Officer Distributes US Citizenship for Bribes
Former 68-year-old US Citizenship and Immigration Officer Daniel Espeggio Amos was convicted up to 33 months in prison for receiving $ 53 thousands of bribes from foreign citizens who were not eligible for US citizenship.
A lawsuit was filed against him on the basis of an investigation by the FBI, the Department of Homeland Security and several other federal agencies, reports Immigration and Customs Service.
According to the investigation, he received bribes, at least from 60 people who were helped by obtaining US citizenship, despite the fact that they did not have the right to do so.
Amos admitted that for taking bribes he forged the results of the test of applicants' knowledge of English, as well as the results of their interviews for the naturalization process.
In one case, the English applicant was so bad that Amos gave him a document with ready-made answers to the questions of the naturalization interview, so that he could memorize them.
