Ex-president of Georgia settles in a tent near the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine

Former President of Georgia, leader of the Ukrainian party “Rukh of New Forces” Mikheil Saakashvili said that he will live in a tent city near the building of the Verkhovna Rada in Kyiv. He asked the Ukrainians to protect him from deportation. Writes about this LB.

“I want to ask for protection in my ranks, in the ranks of the people of Kiev, from decent, decent people of Ukraine. I will protect you, but let’s protect me,” Saakashvili said at a press conference on the street in Kyiv.

“I decided to move to the protesters in the square in front of the Rada,” he added.

Saakashvili also called on the mayor of Lvov, the leader of the Self-Help party Andrei Sadovoy and the leader of the Civic Position party Anatoly Gritsenko to join him.

“I want to call on the leaders of the opposition – Sadovoy, Anatoly Gritsenko and all the others – to come to us, to come to me,” the politician said.

According to the Ukrainian News agency, now about 100 people remain at the protest. About 50 law enforcement officers monitor public order.

Recall, in July 2017, President of Ukraine Peter Poroshenko Saakashvili deprived of Ukrainian citizenship.

In response, the former head of the Odessa region stated that he would challenge this decision in court, as well as that "will not stop the fight for Ukraine."

Despite being deprived of his citizenship, Saakashvili arrived in Poland with a Ukrainian passport and announced his intention to cross the border of Ukraine on September 10.

The border guards of the Polish side allowed Saakashvili to enter the territory of Ukraine, but Saakashvili’s bus got stuck in the “neutral zone”: the Ukrainian side closed the border, and the border guards reported that “according to the operational duty officer of the SBU for the Lviv region, the Shegini crossing is mined.”

Thereafter Saakashvili supporters broke into Ukraine by storm.
