Ex-head of the CIA called Trump “Putin’s“ unwitting agent ”

Former head of the US Central Intelligence Agency Michael Morell called Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump an “unwitting agent” of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

He wrote about this in his column for The New York Times.

“Putin plays on Trump’s vulnerabilities with flattery. And he responds to this as Putin expected,” wrote the former head of the CIA.

In support, he cited examples of several of Trump's statements in which he defends the interests of Russia, and not the United States. For example, Trump endorsed the actions of Russian intelligence and hackers against the United States, supported the annexation of Crimea by Russia and the possible invasion of the Russian military in the Baltic region.

“In intelligence, we would say that Putin recruited Trump as an unwitting agent of the Russian Federation,” Morell added.

He also noted that Donald Trump's statements could - and already do - harm US national security, referring to his statement about the need to deport all Muslims from the country.

Morrell added that he intends to vote for Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton because, according to the former head of the CIA, she will “keep the country safe.”
