Joe Biden announced his nominee for US Vice President
Joe Biden has chosen Senator Kamala Harris as his running mate. Harris is the daughter of Jamaican and Indian immigrants and a former prosecutor who has earned a reputation as an implacable antagonist of the Trump administration, writes Political.
"I'm honored to announce that I have chosen Kamala Harris, a fearless fighter for the rights of ordinary people, and one of the nation's finest public servants, as my running mate," Biden tweeted.
Kamala Harris's experience as a battle-tested presidential candidate, her efforts to lead major law enforcement agencies, and her political track record of three California election victories have helped her overcome a tight line of contenders.
She began serving in the Senate in 2016, becoming the first Indian American and only the second Black woman senator. If Harris becomes vice president, she will be the first woman, first Black person and first Asian American politician to serve in that position. Harris' parents are immigrants from Jamaica and India who were active in the marches of the 1960s. Harris joined Black Lives Matter demonstrations this summer.
Harris participated in the Democratic primaries as one of the potential candidates for the 2020 US presidential nomination.
“Joe Biden can unite the American people because he has spent his life fighting for us. And as president, he can build an America that lives up to our ideals,” Harris responded to Biden’s tweet.
Biden prioritized the selection of a candidate for the post, and his months-long search narrowed the list to a few women who the campaign believed could help Democrats in the home stretch. In Harris, Biden hopes to combine both of his priorities by choosing an exciting campaigner as well as a long-term management partner.

Harris, 55, also developed a personal relationship with Biden, and she was close with his late son Beau, a former state attorney general. But as part of Biden's campaign, she had to worry about whether she could be a reliable partner in the job following a bitter initial confrontation and party debate.
As the ABC13President Donald Trump, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, ex-President Barack Obama and other politicians issued statements following Biden's decision.
President Donald Trump
In a press release, Trump's adviser Katrina Pearson said that "Harris will give up his morality and will also try to bury his reputation as a prosecutor to appease the anti-police extremists who control the Democratic Party."
Trump himself published a video criticizing Harris and Biden, accompanied by the text: “With Harris as 'political life force', Joe Biden hands over control of our country to a radical mafia with promises to raise taxes, cut police funding, kill energy jobs and open our borders ".
