Two Americans stayed in 43 prison of the year for murder that was not committed

In Florida, two mistakenly convicted men were released: 76-year-old Clifford Williams and 61-year-old Nathan Myers. They spent behind bars 43 of the year, although they did not commit the murder in which the court accused them, writes New York Post.

Men were given a life sentence for the murder of Jeanette Wilms in 1976. They remained in prison, despite the fact that several years ago another suspect confessed to the crime.

“I have lost almost 43 years of my life that I will never be able to get back, but I look to the future and focus on enjoying freedom with my family,” Myers said.

The release of the innocent was made possible thanks to the work of the newly created Florida Prosecutor’s Office, which deals with the verification of sentences.

Initially, the case against the men was carried out, relying on the testimony of Nina Marshall, who also suffered as a result of the attack on Janette Williams, but survived. Her story has changed over the years.

As noted in the investigation report, another person, Nathaniel Lawson, who died in 1994, took responsibility for the crimes.
