12-year-old girl graduated from Los Angeles City College: she entered there at the age of 9

Fiona Curry is only 12 years old, but she graduated from City College of Los Angeles with a GPA of 4.0 and an associate degree in studio art. The publication ABC7 told in more detail.

“The only reason I really like college is because it gives me something to work on and also gives me a lot of opportunities to expand my artistic abilities,” she said.

Fiona says that she is very proud, but at the same time very nervous about getting her diploma.

“In fact, I have never been on stage with thousands of people,” she explained.

Armine Deregishian of Los Angeles City College thinks it's incredible: "We're so proud of Fiona!"

During the COVID-19 lockdown, Fiona launched a dual immersion program that allowed her to take online college courses while continuing to attend school.

She gets excellent grades as a 9th grade homeschooled student. Homeschooling helped her to be close to her mother - she has lupus, which affects the immune system.

Fiona's proud parents remember her first day of college at the age of 9 - she studied at the computer via webcam.

Roderick Curry, Fiona's father, recalls the professor saying, "Little girl, does your mom or dad go to this class?" Fiona laughed in response and said, "No, I'm a student." The professor looked shocked, but that's when the parents realized that Fiona would be all right.

Fiona not only learns, but also has fun. The only thing she doesn't do is spend hours on social media.

“A lot of people might think that doing this is crazy and impossible. If you think of something, it will never be impossible,” she said.

After graduation, Fiona plans to continue her studies at the City College of Los Angeles while she is in high school.
