Two drunken Americans spent the night on the Eiffel Tower because they could not go down: in the morning they were arrested

Two Americans were found on the Eiffel Tower early in the morning of August 14. They spent the night there as they were intoxicated, reports CNN.

Two men who had tickets for the evening of August 13 to Paris' famous iron tower were "allegedly trapped there due to excessive drinking," Paris prosecutors said.

According to prosecutors and SETE (Société d'Exploitation de la tour Eiffel), the operator that runs the site, the tourists were found asleep in the early hours of August 14 by Eiffel Tower security personnel conducting a round before the unveiling of the monument. They slept between the second and third levels on a site closed to visitors and were in a state of intoxication.

The tourists were “quickly taken out” and handed over to the Paris police. According to the operator, SETE will press charges of trespassing, although they acknowledged that the two men "pose no threat."

"Since no damage was found, the penalty for intrusion into a historical or cultural site has been canceled," the Paris prosecutor's office added.

Due to the antics of the Americans, the opening of the Eiffel Tower was delayed. According to Le Parisien, visitors began to be allowed into the attraction around 10:45 instead of 9:00. By that time, a line had gathered at the museum, in which those who wanted to get to the tower stood for several hours.
