Two Canadian banks said hackers could steal data from tens of thousands of customers.

The bank suggests that hackers are outside of Canada. All vulnerabilities due to which attackers could steal customer data were eliminated, the company was assured.

On the same day, fraudsters contacted Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce (CIBC), which is included in the country's top 5 banks. Hackers said they stole personal and financial information about 40 thousands of customers Simplii Financial, banking subsidiary of CIBC.

The bank has not yet been able to confirm the fact of information leakage, however, it took the threat seriously. According to a CIBC representative, the clients of the main bank of the group were not affected. Other Canadian banks have not yet reported hacker attacks.

The number of cybercrime is increasing every year. In September 2017, hackers exploited a vulnerability in protecting a credit bureau's website. Equifax and got access to personal data of more 140 million Americans. There were their names and dates of birth, social security numbers and driver's licenses.

In October, 2016, the attackers kidnapped 50 names, email addresses and phone numbers of millions of users and 7 of millions of drivers Uber all over the world. The company hid the theft, it became known only in November 2017 of the year.
