Two years of execution on the Maidan: the perpetrators are not punished
Until now, there has not been a single court verdict on the executions of activists on the Euromaidan.
Two years ago on the Euromaidan began mass executions of activists.
Now on this day are memorable events. However, the investigation of crimes against maydanovtsev has not been completed.
The state promises monetary compensation to the victims and their families, but those responsible for the massacres have not been punished.
Below is information about what has been done in the investigation of crimes against maydanovtsev for two years.
Did you find a weapon?
In early February, the security forces said they had found a weapon from which they shot the Maidan.
The weapon was found in the Goloseevsky district of Kiev - in a pond and the coastal strip.
The SBU says that after examinations it was established that these were the weapons that were used on the Maidan: “The examinations were lengthy... Yes, these weapons are related to the events on the Maidan.”
The head of the special investigations department of the Main Investigation Department of the General Prosecutor's Office of Ukraine, Sergei Gorbatyuk, explained that we are talking about the weapons of the Berkut company fighters.
“Fragments of 23 Kalashnikov assault rifles have been identified. 24 units then disappeared from the company. Currently, 12 have been clearly identified... These are exactly the weapons we were looking for,” he emphasized.
Who killed
According to the GPU, the past Ukrainian authorities have developed a plan to disperse Maidan, which did not preclude murder.
Based on the results of the investigation, it was established that the events both in the morning of February 18 during the “peaceful offensive” and the events that took place during the storming of the Maidan in the evening are connected by a single plan.
“Authority representatives developed the following plan: to counter these protests, they attracted a large number of law enforcement officers and coordinated their joint activities with the titushki, who were also armed. They jointly had to commit violent acts against the protesters. At the same time, representatives of law enforcement agencies, in particular Berkut and internal troops, were given hunting cartridges, which are strictly prohibited for use in law enforcement agencies,” said Deputy Head of the Main Investigation Department, Head of the Department of Special Investigations Sergei Gorbatyuk.
According to him, law enforcement officers had to provoke the protesters to protective actions.
“The investigation established that there was indeed brutal use of violence against the protesters. If we take the events in Mariinsky Park, on Grushevsky Street, Krepostny Lane, Institutskaya Street. During the dispersal of the “peaceful offensive,” 10 people were killed, more than 500 were injured, of which more than 100 received serious injuries,” Gorbatyuk added.
Nobody was jailed
Most of the special forces from Berkut, who are accused of shooting Maidan activists on February 20, 2014, are hiding in Russia or Crimea.
Russian law enforcement agencies do not provide information regarding these Berkut officers.
The indictments against only three security officials who are accused of killing 48 EuroMaidan activists and causing 85 gunshot wounds to protesters are sent to court.
In total, 276 people are involved in the case of crimes during the Euromaidan.
“In total, 276 people were brought to criminal responsibility,” Gorbatyuk said
According to him, a sixth of them are high-ranking officials, including the ex-president and former heads of administration.
For illegal decisions against euromaidins, more than 200 employees of internal affairs bodies, more than 80 prosecutors, and more than a hundred judges check.
The state promises money
The state will provide annual payments to the families of those killed and injured during the clashes on the Maidan at the beginning of 2014.
“Today the government is adopting a resolution on annual payments to those killed on the Maidan. 108 dead. Both last year and this year, a payment of almost 138 thousand hryvnia will be made to each family of the victims,” said Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk.
116 seriously wounded people will be paid 68,9 thousand hryvnias.
