Drones of the DPRK violated the airspace of South Korea: one of them flew to Seoul

Several drones launched from North Korea violated South Korean airspace. A South Korean fighter jet on alert has crashed. Ukrainian Truth.

According to the Yonhap agency, the South Korean military recorded the arrival from the north and identified the UAV. North Korean drones crossed the areas of Gimpo, Paju and Ganghwa Island in Gyeonggi Province around 10:25 a.m. local time. Some of them reached populated areas. South Korea scrambled military aircraft, helicopters and fired warning shots. 100 shells fired from helicopters failed to shoot down the drones.

One drone flew as far as the northern outskirts of the capital, Seoul, before returning across the border.

A South Korean KA-1 light attack aircraft crashed shortly after taking off from the Wonju base in the east of the country while trying to counter the drones, a defense ministry spokesman said. Two pilots managed to escape before the crash and are now in the hospital. This is the first such incident since 2017.

The South Korean Ministry of Transport suspended flights to Gimpo and Incheon International Airports for about an hour.

A South Korean military spokesman said the military has since lost track of all drones, but they no longer fly in South Korean airspace. with the BBC.

The invasion comes amid rising tensions on the Korean Peninsula as North Korea conducted a record number of missile tests this year. A South Korean military official called the invasion a clear provocation by Pyongyang.

“Our military will continue to respond carefully and decisively to North Korean provocations,” the official added.

The South Korean military said it also sent reconnaissance planes into North Korean territory to photograph its military installations.

North Korean drones pose a security threat to South Korea as they can be used to both spy on and attack South Korea.

Earlier this month, North Korea said it had conducted major tests needed to develop its first spy satellite that could be used to monitor South Korea. She posted an aerial photo of Seoul that she said was taken during the tests.
