Drones will deliver blood and medicine to remote parts of the US

American doctors will use drones to transport blood and medicine to remote locations.

The technical performer of this idea will be the company Zipline, which has already successfully started similar work in Rwanda, writes The Verge.

The project in the United States plans to launch by the end of August.

The first unmanned doctors will receive residents of Washington, Nevada and Maryland. Drones will be able to quickly deliver blood and medicines to villages, to islands, and also to Indians on reservations.

“People in the United States are experiencing health care disparities right now, especially for those living in remote areas of the country,” said Zipline founder and CEO Keller Rinaudo.

Zipline's electric-powered drone, called "Lightning," can carry up to three pounds (1,3 kg) of blood or medication and can fly up to 75 miles (120 km) on a single charge.

Hospitals will be able to order blood or medicines via text messages, and they will be delivered using a parachute with a drone. Drone navigation, weighing 22 pounds (almost 10 kg), carried out using GPS and cellular networks, they will be able to deliver within 30 minutes.

Zipline started its drug delivery business to 2014 in Rwanda as a startup. It is actively supported by Google Ventures, Sequoia Partners and Microsoft.
