Middle-class income in the US rose to a record high
The average income of an American family rose to a record high in the 2017 year, and the poverty level dropped to the minimum figure that was observed even before the recession in the 2008 year.
This is evidenced by the new data published US Census Bureau.
СThe average household income in the US in 2017 increased to 61 400 dollars per year, an increase of 1,8% over the previous year, when the average income was 60 300 dollars. This figure is a record, exceeding the 1999 data of the year, when the highest incomes of the country's inhabitants were recorded in the United States.
Meanwhile, the share of people below the poverty line decreased by 0,4 percentage points compared to the previous year, to 12,3%. In absolute terms, that's 39,7 million people, the lowest poverty rate since 2006, before the recession pushed poverty higher.
This data shows that after many years of the devastating effects of the financial crisis, middle-class incomes began to gradually recover by the end of Barack Obama’s second presidential term, reaching new record highs under President Donald Trump.
