Prices of COVID-19 vaccine from different companies announced

Moderna Inc plans to price its COVID-19 vaccine at between $ 50 and $ 60 per course, at least $ 11 more than vaccines from Pfizer Inc and BioNTech. Writes about it Reuters.

Pfizer Inc and its German partner BioNTech agree to sell their vaccine to the US government for $ 39 per course (2 doses), significantly different from Moderna's price.

Industry analysts argued that the $ 2 billion deal with Pfizer and BioNTech, under which the US will receive 50 million doses of the vaccine, is likely to force other manufacturers to charge similar prices.

According to the announcement, Moderna's proposed price will apply to the United States and other high-income countries.

A Moderna spokesman said the company is in talks with governments for a possible delivery of a vaccine, dubbed mRNA-1273, but did not provide any detailed pricing data, "given the confidential nature of the discussions and contracts."

The final price of Moderna's COVID-19 vaccine has yet to be determined, a person familiar with the situation said.

Pfizer, Moderna and Merck & Co have said they plan to sell their vaccines at a cost that will bring profit to the company, while several drug manufacturers, including Johnson & Johnson, have announced plans to price their vaccines on a non-profit basis.

AstraZeneca Plc has agreed to provide the United States with 300 million doses of its potential vaccine in exchange for $ 1,2 billion in pre-funding, which is $ 4 per dose.

The US government has provided nearly $ 1 billion in funding to Moderna to support research and development of a potential COVID-19 vaccine.

The funding is part of Operation Warp Speed, an initiative by the administration of President Donald Trump to accelerate production of the COVID-19 vaccine.
