Trump said Putin had let him down and promised good news on Ukraine.
US President Donald Trump concluded his second official visit to the UK. At his final press conference, he said good news about the war in Ukraine would soon emerge, then added that Vladimir Putin had let him down, according to the news service. Air force.
At his final press conference with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Trump said he felt obligated to seek a resolution to the war in Ukraine and hoped good news would arrive soon.
President Trump said that, given NATO countries' commitment to spend 5% of their GDP on defense, agreed upon at the June summit, he believed ending the war in Ukraine would be easy. He also cited his personal relationship with Russian President Vladimir Putin as a favorable factor.
On the subject: The Trump administration has approved its first military aid package for Ukraine.
But, as Trump confirmed, “Putin really let me down.”
"He [Putin] kills a lot of people and loses more people than he kills. Frankly, Russian soldiers are dying at higher rates than Ukrainian soldiers… We haven't seen this many soldiers killed since World War II. They're being killed. And I believe that's why I have to solve this problem. I hope we have some good news for you soon," Trump concluded.
At the same time, the US President repeated his idea that Russia’s war against Ukraine would not have begun if he had been president at the time.
The White House chief reiterated that his administration had settled seven wars, most of which he said were "thought to be impossible to settle," but a BBC investigation found that this was far from true.
The American president assured that his administration is now working diligently to end the war in Gaza, and this, he said, will be done "properly." He also hopes to achieve the same in Ukraine.
"In war, you never know how things will go. You think it'll be easy, but the exact opposite happens," Trump admitted ruefully.
However, he noted that he doesn't regret holding the peace summit in Alaska with Putin, where the red carpet was laid out for the Russian leader. Following these talks, talk of a personal meeting between Zelenskyy and Putin intensified.
The Kremlin even hinted at a willingness to host the Ukrainian president in Moscow, but Zelenskyy rejected the offer. Later, Putin's press secretary, Dmitry Peskov, acknowledged the "pause" in negotiations and warned against "rose-colored glasses" in anticipation of quick results.
Will oil pacify Russia?
At the end of his press conference, Donald Trump made it clear that he was waiting for European countries to reduce their dependence on Russian oil before he decided to increase pressure on Vladimir Putin.
"I'm willing to take any number of steps, but not when the people I'm fighting for are buying oil from Russia," the American leader told reporters.
"If the price of oil goes down, Russia will calm down," Trump concluded.
He did not mention, however, that the largest buyers of Russian oil in Europe are currently Hungary and Slovakia, whose leaders emphasize their special closeness to Trump.

The British Prime Minister, in turn, emphasized that only when Trump puts pressure on Putin does he "show any inclination to take any action."
Moreover, he said, the recent massive strikes on Ukraine and the drone invasion of Poland “are not the actions of someone who wants peace.”
The peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine that Trump confidently predicted a month ago remains elusive. It remains unclear how the American president intends to break the impasse in Ukraine.
