Efforts were not in vain. Tuesday night, March 5, Barrett received an unexpected call from Trump. According to the man, he heard a low-key greeting: “I am the secretary of the US president. Do you have time to talk to him? ”

Barret was delighted.

“Okay, Jay, I like you. I just saw your picture,” Trump began during a video call posted on YouTube.

Barrett replied, “Oh, you flatter me. I look like ... ". This prompted Trump to laugh and ask, “How are you?” How are you doing jay ... you are the champion. You fight, right? ".

“What else do the Irish do?” Barrett replied.

“Yeah, that's what the Irish do—you better believe it,” Trump said.

"Mr. President, know that I support you," Barrett told the president.

Barrett told Trump that he plans to come to Washington, DC.

Barrett said that he was also called by Eric Trump and the head of the regional department of housing and urban development of the United States Lynn Patton.

Eric Trump "told me they were praying for me," Barrett said.

Patton said she would come to Connecticut to give Barrett a present from the president.

A man who considered himself politically independent for most of his life said that he had voted for President Barack Obama in 2008, but he didn’t like most of his decisions, including the Affordable Care Act, also known as ObamaCare. Then he came to the conclusion that he would support Republicans, and fell in love with Trump’s style when launching his presidential campaign.

His initial goal was to get to Washington to personally meet with the president and shake hands with him and say that he was grateful for everything.

Although he has only six months left to live, Barrett intends to vote in 2020.
