The designer, who has moved the faces of victims of repression to the present, has launched an impressive photo project.

Moscow cartoonist Khasan Bakhayev was not known to the general public until last week. However, in three days, hundreds of people recognized his name. Hassan suffered victims of Stalinist repression in our time. Showed how long-dead people would look like, live now. This project received such a wide resonance in the network that Hassan decided to create a whole project called “Revived Memory”.

In the interview "This is Caucasus" Hassan said that he did not expect such a resonance and is not a professional designer. The program Photoshop I mastered it only six months ago, so the photographs turned out just like that - black and white and color.

“I don’t know how to convert black and white photos to color. But everything that is done is for the better. The project has a concept. I connected another program that blurs color, and erased the line between color and black and white, between past and present. Maybe if I were a Photoshop luminary, the project’s heroes would look exactly like they came from the street, but at the same time they would lose the ability to reach the audience. And now the pictures show both the past and the future at the same time,” said the artist.

He noted that his project received 5000 reposts, and now people from different countries are actively writing, sharing reviews and stories.

“5000 reposts - I’ve never seen anything like that from Grebenshchikov! They write from Ukraine, America, Israel... For three days now this has not stopped for a minute. Unfortunately, I don’t have time to answer everyone, but I convey my gratitude for appreciating my humble work. I never expected this,” says Hassan.

He also said that he received an offer from a San Francisco publisher to publish a book based on photos.

“Another person - it seems, the producer of the group “The King and the Jester” - suggested making a similar project about musicians. People of culture also fell under such hammers,” said the designer.

Soviet theater director and actor Vsevolod Meyerhold was arrested in Leningrad. After three weeks of interrogation and torture, Meyerhold signed the testimony required by the investigation. In January 1940, Meyerhold wrote to V.M. Molotov: “...They beat me here - a sick 66-year-old man, they put me face down on the floor, they beat me on my heels and back with a rubber band, when I was sitting on a chair, they beat me on my legs with the same rubber.” […], the pain was such that it seemed like boiling water was being poured onto the sore sensitive areas of the legs.” The meeting of the Military Collegium of the Supreme Court of the USSR took place on February 1, 1940. The board sentenced the director to death. On February 2, 1940, the sentence was carried out.
