Disney to close Ice Age studio, leaving hundreds of people unemployed
As the «Medusa», The Walt Disney Company has announced that it will close the Blue Sky Studios, known for its Ice Age and Rio cartoons.

Deadline was the first to report the closure, citing a company statement. Here is its text:
“Given the current economic realities, after much consideration and evaluation, we have made the difficult decision to cease film production at Blue Sky Studios.”
Blue Sky Studios will close in April. 450 employees will lose their jobs. According to Deadline, other major studios have no plans to hire them yet. But another publication, Variety, notes that laid-off employees can be recruited into two other animation divisions of The Walt Disney Company - Walt Disney Animation Studios and Pixar.
Blue Sky Studios was founded in 1987. In 2017, Disney bought the studio from 21st Century Fox.

The studio has released 13 full-length cartoons, including five parts of the Ice Age franchise. The studio's last animated film was released in 2019 - "Spies in Disguise".
Deadline notes that Blue Sky Studios' movie library and intellectual property will remain in Disney's ownership.
