Russian diplomats refused to be allowed into the Russian fortress in the USA

Russian diplomats again failed to obtain American visas, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said.

As the diplomat specified RIA News, this time the trip of representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to the Russian-American forum “Dialog Fort-Ross” broke.

“The site for this format is the former fortress of Russian pioneers in California, and it is aimed at strengthening mutual understanding through public diplomacy and stimulating bilateral cooperation. Apparently, someone in Washington’s political circles didn’t like such goals, ”Zakharova said.

The representative of the department emphasized that “ending the vicious practice of visa issuance” depends only on the American side.

“We only know about two senators who could not enter Russia, but this is not because Russia does not issue them visas, does it at the wrong time or delays visas, but because they are on the Russian visa black list,” she said she.

Zakharova recalled that US representatives were blacklisted in response to US sanctions against Russian parliamentarians, entrepreneurs, public figures, and “even ordinary citizens.” At the same time, Moscow’s measures are of a purely mirror nature; it does not create any obstacles in the dialogue with Washington, however, there is no “reciprocal readiness”, the diplomat concluded.

Visa situation

In late September, Maria Zakharova reportedthat some members of the Russian delegation did not receive American visas to participate in the 74th session of the UN General Assembly.

In washington it explained "Technical reasons."

In turn, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov called the refusal to issue visas a shame. He recalled that in 2018, Moscow went to meet Washington and, at the request of its American colleagues, included a delegation of Senator Ron Johnson on the sanctions list as part of his visit to Russia.

American politicians promised to answer in a mirror, however, as Lavrov noted, Washington said this year that issuing a visa to anyone on the sanctions list is “categorically impossible.”

The diplomat called it a sad demonstration of "American exclusivity."

The Kremlin criticized the denial of American visas for the Russian delegation. Spokesman for the Russian leader Dmitry Peskov said that the situation requires a rather tough reaction from Russia and the UN.
